Robert E. Hamilton Scholarship

This is an SOSU Upward Bound scholarship in memory of Dr. Bob Hamilton.  He was the director from 1993 to 1997 and made a positive impact on many UB students during those years.  Dr. Hamilton believed in the importance of a good education and inspired all those around him to be their best.

Criteria:

Qualified applicants will be full-time students who have a 2.0+ GPA and graduated from an SOSU Upward Bound program (SOSU Upward Bound, Texoma Upward Bound or Upward Bound Math/Science).

Amount for 2013-2014:

$450 – awarded once during the academic year

Hatak Yearby Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This is an SOSU Upward Bound scholarship in memory of UB alum Hatak Yearby (UB Class of 2003).  Hatak was KIA on May 14, 2006 while serving on active duty in Iraq.  He was a true friend to all who knew him, always helpful, caring, and humorous. His life and personality was always full of happiness, respect, and honor.

Criteria:

Sophomore or above full-time students may apply.  Students must have a 3.0+ GPA to qualify for the scholarship.  Preference is given to students who have participated in an SOSU Upward Bound programs (SOSU Upward Bound, Texoma Upward Bound or Upward Bound Math/Science).

Amount for 2013-2014:

$400 – awarded once during the academic year
 

Requirements for applying for these scholarships

  • SOSU Scholarship application on file OR complete the application (online or on campus)
  • School transcripts (high school transcript if freshman; college transcript if current SOSU student)
  • Essay – “How Upward Bound Impacted Your Life”  (one page essay, print copy AND e-mail a copy to chammel@se.edu)
  • Applications are to be completed and returned to the SOSU Upward Bound office by
    October 1st, 2013
