Psychology holds the potential to reach many aspects of a student’s life: intellectual, emotional, and behavioral. The psychology major should facilitate in students the ability to ask intelligent questions about behavior and should also help them grasp what constitutes acceptable answers to those questions. The psychology major should foster increased interpersonal and intrapersonal awareness. Ideally, the study of psychology should help students understand how gender, race, ethnicity, class and culture affect psychological development and shape human experience. The psychology major should help students develop conceptual and critical thinking skills that will serve as an intellectual base for lifelong learning, thinking, and doing.
