Jay-B Zydeco Posse – September 19, 2013

2013 Symposium GroupJay-B and the Zydeco Posse plays authentic music originating from the Creole and African American communities in Southwest Louisiana. Their music blends Creole, hip-hop, soul, and reggae with a blues influence. The accordion is the dominating instrument, accompanied by a rub-board. The Zydeco Posse instruments include these plus guitars, bass, and drums. The ensemble performs concerts in many venues across the North Texas and Southeast Oklahoma region.  The September 19th concert will be located on the lawn of Morrison Hall.

Heinavanker – October 8, 2013

HeinavankerHeinavanker, a vocal ensemble from Estonia, presents music in ancient sacred traditions. Their repertoire includes Estonian folk hymns, ancient runic songs, and early sacred music. They have performed worldwide since 1997, to universal acclaim.

American Brass Quintet – October 24, 2013

ABQThe American Brass Quintet, in its 51st season, is internationally recognized as one of the premier chamber ensembles in the brass world. They perform music of a variety of genres and musical eras from the 1500s to the present world-wide, record extensively, have premiered over one hundred contemporary brass works, and have worked with countless young musicians to advance the performance of brass music. The ABQ is the residence Brass Quintet at The Julliard School and the Aspen Music Festival.

The Kithara Duo – November 21, 2013

The Kithara DuKithara Duoo has performed across the United States and in Europe and South America. Based in Fort Worth, the Duo organizes workshops and other learning opportunities for many musicians. They have taught young musicians for over fifteen years, focusing on technique and musicianship. The Kithara Duo has expanded the guitar repertoire through arranging and through original compositions for solo guitar and guitar duo.

Rocco Parisi and Maurizio Barboro – January 28, 2014

Steger/Bass Foundation Event

Rocco RoccoParisi was born in San Pietro a Maida, Italy. He earned a degree in Bass Clarinet at the Rotterdam Conservatorium, a master’s degree in clarinet at the Conservatorio “F. Ghedini” of Cuneo, and a Diploma of Honor at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. He is currently professor of clarinet and bass clarinet at the conservatory “Antonio Vivaldi” in Alessandria.





Maurizio Barboro completed his artistic education at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He is on the faculty of the Paganini Conservatory in Genoa, is artist in residence and soloist of the Dumitrescu Philharmonic Orchestra of Valcea, Romania, and teaches at the International Summer Courses in Bergolo.

TorQ – February 25, 2014

torqTorQ, a Canadian percussion quartet, has performed to critical acclaim across Canada and in many collaborative events. These artists are invested in music education and are committed to making music accessible to a wide variety of audiences. TorQ presents over 70 school performances a year and have premiered numerous works for percussion quartet.

The Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble is a versatile and dynamic chamber music who engages audiences through their connective programming and unexpected performance venues. 5HE develops young audiences through curriculum-integrated interactive concerts and residencies for students grades K-12. The Fifth House Ensemble is Ensemble in Residence at Carthage College and members of Fifth House Ensemble are active as orchestral musicians.
