Red River Sing-off

The Southeastern Chorale, Southeastern’s premier vocal ensemble, will host the 3rd Annual Red River Sing-Off on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. The choral competition will place high school choirs from Oklahoma and Texas in head to head competition. Eight exceptional choirs, all with a history of superior performance, have been invited to participate in the event. The choirs will be placed in 4 divisions, with one Oklahoma and one Texas choir in each. Each division will have winner and a runner-up. There will be one Grand Champion award for the choir rated the highest regardless of division. And finally, the point totals of all choirs will be added to determine whether Oklahoma or Texas is the overall contest winner.

The Champion format approach for this event is unique for choral contests. Most contests use a rating system of Superior, Excellent, Good, etc. The Red River Sing-off will use a simple point system instead. Choirs will be awarded points for sound quality, technical accuracy, musicality, and stage deportment. Choirs invited include: Cleburne High School, TX; Norman North High School, OK; McKinney North High School, TX; Guthrie High School, OK; Celina High School, TX; Durant High School, OK; Pottsboro High School, TX; and Vian High School, OK.

Due to renovation in Montgomery Auditorium on the Southeastern campus, this year’s event will be held at First Baptist Church, 124 West Evergreen, Durant. The Red River Sing-off will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude with the awards ceremony at 1:30 PM. This event is free and open to the public.
