Originally from Orlando, FL., Dr. Jason Oliver began playing trombone at the age of 11. He currently holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Low Brass at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. His responsibilities there include teaching trombone, euphonium and tuba, as well as teaching courses in Brass Methods, Brass Pedagogy and Brass Literature. He also holds teaching positions in the Argyle and H.E.B. ISD’s in the DFW metroplex with an active studio of 60 students.
As a performer, Dr. Oliver is currently 2nd trombonist with the Sherman Symphony and is the leader of his own trombone quartet in the DFW area. Prior to his current playing positions, he has also been the bass trombonist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. As an active freelance musician, he has performed with the Plano Symphony Orchestra, Irving Symphony Orchestra, New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, Brevard Symphony Orchestra (NC), North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. While residing in Florida, he was also a musician for the Walt Disney World Company and Sea World.
Dr. Oliver holds a D.M.A. from the University of North Texas, a M.M. from the University of New Mexico, and a B.M. from the University of Central Florida.
