The Music Division at Southeastern provides multiple cultural, social, and educational enrichment opportunities for our students. The rural setting of the university makes this a critical element in the mission of our programs. Students in our music program have the benefit of performances by international performing artists throughout the academic year, all FREE OF CHARGE!
The SOSU Musical Arts Series, Steger Piano Institute, Southeastern Swings Jazz Festival, and SOSU Opera Festival all bring international artists to the performance stage. Most of these artists also conduct workshops and master classes in which our students have the opportunity to benefit from performing for, and receiving instruction from, some of the finest musicians in the world. Recent artists for these programs include Maynard Ferguson, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Conspirare, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Douglas Humphries, Hugues Leclere, the American Brass Quintet, Tempus Fugit, the Nuclear Percussion Ensemble, Craig Hella Johnson, Suzanne Pence, Sophia Grech, and Edmund Emge.
Our student organizations, Music Educators National Conference, and Kappa Kappa Psi provide students with leadership experience and service opportunities. Academic, service, research, and social activities provided through these organizations are a vital part of the student music experience at Southeastern.
