Auditions & Scholarships

All prospective students wishing to declare a major in music at Southeastern Oklahoma State University must successfully complete and pass an audition which will include the performance of a prepared piece(s) representative of the student’s current musical and technical skills; scales (and/or rudiments for percussionists); sight reading; basic ear training; and an interview with the music faculty.  This audition is held in conjunction with Music Scholarship Auditions.  Auditioning does not guarantee admission to the program.  Students will be notified of acceptance and the awarding of scholarship monies within two weeks after auditioning.  Specific audition guidelines may be found on the Department of Music website http://homepages.se.edu/music/.

Southeastern boasts an excellent education at affordable prices which can be made even more affordable by means of financial assistance. We recommend that prospective students acquire and study the Student Financial Aid Handbook while keeping in mind that there are additional financial incentives through the Department of Music.

Financial Aid

Over 90% of the students in the music program receive financial aid from the Department of Music. These awards consist of tuition waivers, fee waivers, dormitory rooms, and books. Amounts vary and are awarded based upon high school musical accomplishments, musical proficiency, potential, and choice of major. In most cases, Music Majors will receive more assistance than non-Majors but substantial help can be earned regardless of major area. Almost all of our awards are renewable provided grades are maintained and responsibilities fulfilled.

Super Saturday

Most of our awards are distributed at our “Super Saturday” extravaganza which will occur February 9th, 2013. If you are unable to attend on that date, the alternate audition date is Monday, February 11th, 2013. We are also offering audition spots during the SE Live dates by appointment. Please contact the music department if you need to choose either of the alternate audition date options and are wishing to audition for scholarships for the 2013-2014 school year.

Every student who participates in any of the Music Department’s ensembles is eligible for financial assistance. The type and amount of financial aid is based on the student’s talent and need. One way or another, there is a place for you in The Department of Music at Southeastern! The Music Department has work study and regular work positions available for those students who qualify. There are also a variety of loans and grants available to many students. Each student should contact Financial Aid for further information on all forms of financial assistance.
