All prospective students wishing to declare a major in music at Southeastern Oklahoma State University must successfully complete and pass an audition which will include the performance of a prepared piece(s) representative of the student’s current musical and technical skills; scales (and/or rudiments for percussionists); sight reading; basic ear training; and an interview with the music faculty. This audition is held in conjunction with Music Scholarship Auditions. Auditioning does not guarantee admission to the program. Students will be notified of acceptance and the awarding of scholarship monies within two weeks after auditioning.
Southeastern boasts an excellent education at affordable prices which can be made even more affordable by means of financial assistance. We recommend that prospective students acquire and study the Student Financial Aid Handbook while keeping in mind that there are additional financial incentives through the Department of Music.
Over 90% of the students in the music program receive financial aid from the Department of Music. These awards consist of tuition waivers, fee waivers, dormitory rooms, and books. Amounts vary and are awarded based upon high school musical accomplishments, musical proficiency, potential, and choice of major. In most cases, Music Majors will receive more assistance than non-Majors but substantial help can be earned regardless of major area. Almost all of our awards are renewable provided grades are maintained and responsibilities fulfilled.
- Audition Dates
Most of our awards for the 2014-2015 school year will be distributed during our two audition dates. The early audition date on Thursday, November 21, 2013 will give prospective students the opportunity to observe mini classes and faculty performances, take a lesson (if spots are available), and take a tour of Southeastern’s campus. An on-campus lunch will also be provided for all students who attend. Our second audition date is our “Super Saturday” extravaganza, which will occur Saturday, February 8, 2014. At “Super Saturday”, parents and students will be invited to attend performances and informational sessions about the University. Please contact the music department if you would like to make arrangements to audition at one of the SE Live dates or at another time.
