Library Instruction Overview
The SE Library provides instruction in the use of library resources and services for students, faculty, and other patrons.
The goals of the Library Instruction Program are to foster knowledge and enthusiasm for the library and its services, and to provide students with essential information literacy abilities that will enhance their academic careers and personal growth.
Information literacy is the capability to “recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.”*
An information literate individual is able to:
- Determine the extent of information needed
- Access the needed information effectively and efficiently
- Evaluate information and its sources critically
- Incorporate selected information into one’s knowledge base
- Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose
- Understand the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information, and access and use information ethically and legally
Library research is changing rapidly. Students are often confused and overwhelmed by the myriad of available resources and information. Make sure your students know about the latest tools, methods, and developments in library reseach.
