Assistant Professor of Media Studies/Broadcasting Department of Art, Communication and Theatre
Southeastern Oklahoma State University invites applications for the tenure track faculty position that includes teaching; technical and production duties within the Broadcasting emphasis of the Dept. of Art, Communication and Theatre’s Media Studies Option; and oversight of the department’s video production program and the university’s radio station 91.9FM, KSSU.
This position provides instructional leadership in the Broadcasting emphasis of the Media Studies option by teaching three classes per semester in media, communication, and related or specialized fields as needed. It also manages student staff to coordinate KSSU, the transmitter tower, and the broadcasting classroom; and will work to create an audio/video production team for departmental/university events. The position oversees broadcasting facilities and equipment including, but not limited to, audio, video, lighting and sound equipment; maintains a working inventory of broadcasting equipment and materials; provides current information on repair/replacement costs for equipment; and manages budgets and student payroll. The faculty member is expected to remain current in appropriate editing and design software which can include, Final Cut Pro, CS5, Cool Edit Pro, Audacity, and other audio editing packages. This person will maintain a current understanding of FCC regulations and compliance standards and internet broadcasting trends; provide hands-on training in various aspects of production; and will supervise students on production assignments that will require work outside of traditional class time. This will include availability on nights and weekends. Finally the faculty member will maintain a commitment to research, teaching, faculty development, service, assessment, and other duties as required by the department chair.
Qualifications include M.F.A. in Mass Communication, Broadcasting, Television/Film, Theatre, Art or related field with experience in organization of human, financial, facility and material resources; and demonstrated experience in audio and video production. Preference may be given to candidates who additionally hold an earned doctorate with college teaching experience; two years of professional television, radio, or film production experience; and skills, interests, and a record of interdisciplinary achievement in art, communication, and theatre.
